Artex Removal
Artex Coating
Artex is a more commonly and recognised name given to a textured decorative coating which is generally applied to a ceiling, although the coating can also be found applied to walls. The Artex coating was mixed with asbestos to strengthen it.
Up until 1984 many types of textured coatings, including Artex may have had asbestos mixed in with it; and depending on stocks it could well have been applied much later than this date.
Artex Removal
We can arrange for the safe removal of the Artex either by applying gels or stripping agents and scraping the product from solid surfaces such as walls or removing plasterboard or lath and plaster ceilings in their entirety. Suffolk Asbestos Solutions will ensure this removal is notified to the Health and Safety Executive under Notifiable Non-Licenced Work (NNLW) and for the work to be conducted under negative pressure within a full enclosure to eliminate the spread of asbestos fibres within your property.
Asbestos Testing
Asbestos was commonly used in many textured coatings up until it’s eventual ban in the UK in 1999. At the time of it’s use, there were no strict regulations and there’s a high chance asbestos could be found within textured coatings. It’s not possible to visually identify asbestos within textured coatings, so a sample of the material should be taken and analysed under a microscope to confirm the presence or absence of asbestos. If required, Suffolk Asbestos Solutions can carry out asbestos testing of the material and provide certification confirming whether it does contain asbestos or not.
